Filled with wineries, historic covered bridges, state parks, mom and pop local businesses, and stellar golf courses – Southern Chester County, PA has so much to offer. We’ve listed some of our absolute favorite places to see while you’re visiting – please be sure to let us know any we’ve missed!

The Brandywine Valley Wine Trail is the best way to sample an array of vineyards in Southern Chester County. The four wineries located along the trail are all within driving distance of one another in the beautiful Brandywine Valley. Pack a picnic lunch, gather your friends and set out to explore each of these fantastic wineries. But – as the website suggests please bring a designated driver with you as well!
One stop along the tour is the Kreutz Creek Winery. This winery all began with the passion of winemaker, Jim Kirkpatrick and his store bought wine making kit. Jim expanded beyond the kit and bought land to fulfill his dream of winemaking. The land for the vineyard is located near Kreutz Creek, and that is how it got its name. Kreutz Creek hosts various events throughout the year – concerts, movies and various holiday themed programs (Easter Egg hunt, etc). Parents and kids alike will love visiting Kreutz Creek throughout the year.
Located in a 200 year old renovated bank barn, the Black Walnut Winery also participates in the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail. Guests can relax on the outdoor patios at Black Walnut Winery while taking in the lovely scenery of rolling hills. Wine glass decorating, outdoor concerts, and Sunday Funday which consists of music, games and wine tastings are all available to enjoy at Black Walnut Winery.

Boarderland Vineyard is a family run Vineyard on Fall Line Farm – 66 acres of woodlands, streams and absolute beauty. Wines from the vineyard are available not only on site, but also at local farmers markets in the Southern Chester County area.
Last but certainly not least is Paradocx Vineyard completing the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail. Paradocx Vineyard is owned and operated by the Hoffman and Harris Families. The name of the winery is a play on words, as the four owners are practicing physicians (Pair of Docs). Paradocx Vineyard offers a variety of events for wine enthusiasts to enjoy – happy hour, live music, yoga in the vineyard, ladies night and also a wine club.

Ever wonder how those delicious snacks are made? Kids and grown ups alike will love the Herr’s Snack Factory Tour located right in Southern Chester County, PA. Guests get to go behind the scenes and see the nitty gritty of daily factory production. Herr’s factory also offers private group tours to schools and other organizations. This is one of our favorite “rainy day” activities – you will surely learn something new with each visit.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, Linton Stevens Covered Bridge is a 102 foot long covered bridge that was constructed in 1886. It crossed Big Elk Creek and is located in Elk Township and New London Township, Chester County, PA. Enjoy a nice Sunday drive out in Southern Chester County and visit these historic bridges. Its one of our favorite things to do in the fall with all the lovely foliage.

After driving to see Linton Stevens Covered Bridge, check out the Pine Grove Covered Bridge. Pine Grove was also added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Built in 1884, Pine Grove Covered Bridge borders on Chester and Lancaster counties. It is the longest covered bridge in Lancaster county. The bridge has a two-span, wooden, double burr arch truss design along with steel hanger rods. It is the only two-span covered bridge still in use.

Avon Grove Library is part of the remarkable Chester County Library System (CCLS). CCLS is comprised of 18 public libraries in Chester County PA. Established in 1874, the library was previously known as The Public Library of West Grove and consisted of a collection of only 50 books. Today the Avon Grove Library has grown substantially and has programs for everyone to enjoy.
Adult programs free to the community include tabletop games, crafting, learn to crochet, book clubs and library lecture series. Family programs include story time, legos, science in the summer, crafts and puppet shows.

Wolf’s Hollow County Park is situated among 569 beautiful acres and winds along the Octoraro Creek in Southern Chester County, PA. Wolf’s Hollow is a truly rustic park in that there is no office, and they enforce a carry in / out policy – whatever you bring in you must bring out. Roughly ten miles of trails are spread throughout the park leading to breathtaking views of the creek below. The park holds a weekly hike during the spring, summer and fall months. All levels are welcome and the routes are planned accordingly. Paws on the Path are ranger led hikes for guests and their canine companions. Walk through the grounds with man’s best friend and enjoy the beauty together. A perfect outing during the summer months.

There’s nothing quite like finding an amazing cup of coffee. The kind that is freshly brewed and the aroma just welcomes you in. Wholly Grounds will absolutely serve you that perfect cup of joe. Wholly Grounds and third street outlet is a family run coffee shop and discount grocery store. Visitors to Wholly Grounds rave about the excellent service and great value. The store is known to go above and beyond to make sure their customers have the best experience while shopping. Wholly Grounds participates in first friday in Oxford, PA with live music for guests to enjoy. Local area book clubs are welcome to use the space for discussions, while savoring a delicious cup of joe.

Wyncote Golf Club is nationally recognized as one of the finest clubs in the country. Stunning views at every turn, golfers will be pleased with a day out on this course. Four different tee placements allow for all skill levels to be challenged along the way.
Always thinking about the customer, Wyncote’s website is extremely user friendly. There is an option to book a tee time right online, and there is even a discount for doing so.
The banquet area at Wyncote is exquisite with lavish views of the course. Golfers or those that just enjoy the views can dine at the onsite restaurant – The Ball and Thistle Pub.
Southern Chester County, PA has it all – stellar vineyards for wine enthusiasts, top notch golf courses, state parks, historic bridges, and a plethora of resources at your fingertips through the library system. Visiting or residing in Southern Chester County, PA there is something for everyone.
